About

After a teaching career in UK, Indonesia and Singapore, Sheila studied art at Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, Singapore, completing a course in Western Art in 2004. Sheila continued to study with Claire Harkess, Janet Melrose, and Frances Law, attending many courses and workshops. In 2018/19 Sheila spent a 5 month sabbatical in Ullapool with Eleanor White and Kittie Jones, (BridgehouseArt) where she enjoyed developing her printing skills and her recent work is on show at her studio gallery.

Painting is exciting, you never quite know how things are going to turn out! You have to respond to the paint, my mark making is intuitive, until the very last stage of the painting when decisions have to be carefully and thoughtfully made. I aim for my paintings to be simple, the beauty of the subject conveyed through carefully chosen colours, shapes, lines, and hopefully I will have created an image the viewer can enjoy and relate to.
